Happy Father’s Day
Our AMAZING Dogeared Dads weighed in on what it means to be a father and the best parts of fatherhood. For their special day this year, we asked them to share their answers with us. Let’s see what they had to say!
Our Dogeared Dad: Jesus, Facilities Manager
Belinda, 6 & Belly, 2
“I love to see my daughters improve each day!” FUN FACT- “We get ice cream every Sunday at Belinda’s favorite place named ‘La Cascada!”
Our Dogeared Dad: Chris, Quality Control
Nathan, 3
“Being a father for the first time is the best thing ever! Now I have my little buddy and one day my BBQ grilling assistant!”
Our Dogeared Dad: Merlin, Co-Founder
Jordan, 18 & Grace, 15
“There are challenges to being a responsible Dad. While I still possess the same childlike sense of wonder they enjoy, this tends to blur the line between being a fun Dad and an embarrassing one.”
Our Dogeared Dad: Garr, Managing Director
Priya, 24 & Rory, 22
“Each day as a Dad just gets better and better!”
Our Dogeared Dad: Omar, Accounting
Jaime, 10 & Angel, 8
“The fun part of being a dad is that on Saturdays and Sundays there is always a trip to the park or hiking. The kids are two years apart and they both like different sports…so every time we are at the park I have to transform myself into “super dad!” I’m playing football with one but playing soccer with the other. Greatest feeling after every time we spend time together is to hear their little voice tell me ‘THANK YOU DADDY!”
Our NEWEST Soon-To-Be Dogeared Dad: Lewis, Graphic Design
Baby “bean”
“I feel I was born to be a father… I can’t wait to be able to love and teach our “bean” to be the best person he or she can be!”

700 Strong
Putting positive energy out there is the ultimate investment into a better world. Our Dogeared staff and community has long been involved in volunteering and giving back to causes that are near and dear to us and genuinely help others. Today, we are celebrating the success and accomplishments as a team by reaching over 700 hours of community and volunteering services since January! To date, the team has reached 744 hours through our involvement in opportunities including Heal the Bay, Locks of Love, Step Up Women’s Network, the American Cancer Society, Baby 2 Baby and the Do Good Bus.
Each event allows us to be a part of something greater. Our events are accessible and exciting, encouraging our entire team team to get involved and give back! Volunteering opportunities are chosen by our amazing “Karma in Action” team. The Karma in Action group meets once a month to determine events and opportunities for the company to be involved in and how to get employees to participate. The spirit of karma resonates through the program reminding staffers that “we are all connected.”
Since January, our Dogeared team has participated in team outings as well as individuals volunteering on their own time by assisting therapeutic riders at the Shadow Hills Riding Club raising funds for the Children’s Hospital on a monthly basis or mentoring and teaching at educational institutions.
Our program and Karma in Action team continue to inspire and encourage us to involve ourselves in causes that help those in need. We believe that everyone can be the change and help us create a better world!

B Corp Riders
As a certified B-Corp, Dogeared is always keeping a pulse on really cool ways to serve our local communities and make a difference. We are believers of a healthy and sustainable future, not just for business, but for our planet. So it was no surprise when our co-founder and avid road cyclist, Merlin, jumped on the opportunity to support the Climate Ride. This 6-day, 327 mile journey is an amazing movement that encourages a healthy lifestyle and fitness while promoting a movement towards a more eco-friendly environment for the future. Now that is something we can get on board with!!
Each cyclist raises funds months prior to the event to help fund the organization’s movements towards sustainable and clean energy. Merlin ended up raising over $4,500 this year! Over $450,000 was raised for Climate Ride and its beneficiaries on this particular ride. Funds support sustainable endeavors that range from protected bike lanes to environmentally-friendly legislation, from saving our forests to furthering the cause of socially responsible business via B Lab and others.
Fellow members of the B Corporation Community participated as a team and successfully completed the West Coast ride and wrote about their experience here: ‘B The Change: The Blog’
Step Up Women’s Network
A Truly Inspiring Day
This year, Dogeared made Step Up Women’s Network our non-profit partner…donating time and funds to incredible young girls and women. Step Up Women’s Network is a truly inspiring organization, fulfilling underserved girls’ in local communities to reach their full potential through education, mentoring and confidence building. Each year, SUWN hosts their annual Inspiration Awards Event at The Beverly HIlton Hotel here in Los Angeles. The Dogeared team was ecstatic to be invited to celebrate the successes of the graduating class of 2013 and honorees.
Our team was able to donate jewelry for the silent auction and to the honorary girls from the class of 2013 – (and not to mention, 100% graduation rate and EVERY one of them accepted into college!). Celebrity honorees at the event included Julie Bowen, of ‘Modern Family’ and fashion designer, Trina Turk and Nina Jacobson, producer of “The Hunger Games.”
The day was filled with inspiring, moving and impressive stories of courage and fortitude from the girls of the organization and the hardships they endured to get to where they are now. We were so happy to be a part of these young women’s lives and watch their success flourish! Check out some of their encouraging stories here- http://youtu.be/VmZ2tijiV9c
Step Up Women’s Network, its mentors and sponsors enable progress and education for these young women through after school programs and mentorship opportunities to ensure a brighter future for all. With over 900 attendees at the event, Step Up was able to raise over $400,000 to help the next wave of these amazing young women. For more information on Step Up Women’s Network, visit: www.suwn.org

Dogeared Glow!
Glow team Dogeared, GLOW!
A bunch of us decided to be brave and join the highly anticipated Electric Run, a 5k of neon and house music held at the Home Depot Center at night. We definitely had an amazing time prepping for the event buying neon anything and glow sticks that we could place on our arms and legs. We even had Team Dogeared T-Shirts made to glow in the dark!
Pleasantly surprised that Vanessa Hudgens was our countdown maven, we decided to be “athletic” and jog the entire thing. Over 10,000 people navigated their way through neon trees and electronic music. As we made our way through each section of glowing glam and wild effects, it looked just like a scene out of the forest of Alice & Wonderland!
At the finish line, we were greeted with a table of illuminated cups of water and a live DJ on stage beaming with green lasers. We felt like we accidentally ran into a hidden rave! Plus, nothing says ‘Good Race’ like beer and food trucks with dance music and sweaty neon people! Good times!
Heal the Bay
Dogeared @ Heal the Bay!
Danielle and Tania from Dogeared were lucky gals who attended the Annual Bring Back the Beach Gala held at the Jonathan Beach Club. The Gala is a fundraising event that helps SoCal keep its beaches clean and family friendly. The organizers raised funds by hosting a silent and live auction with products and gifts donated by high end vendors and retailers in the area.
The blue carpet celeb studded event included a live performance by the famed Ziggy Marley on the beach front property. MC’d by Amy Smart, the event began at sunset and went late into the evening with entertainment, good food and drink! Who wouldn’t want to hang out on the beach with great tunes and good people?!The event was able to raise over $1 million for programs that assist in cleaning the beached in the SoCal area. A total success!
