Habitat for Humanity

On Valentine’s Day, five members of Team Dogeared gave something even better than flowers and candy—they volunteered their time at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Gardena! The ReStore sells new and used home furnishings and building materials to the public at great discounts. As volunteers, our team organized and moved merchandise to the sales floor and assisted customers. A big thank you to Francine, Irene, Deanna, Jackie & Markeesa for participating!

Locks of Love

Our very own Elsa (along with over 200 other participants) donated 10 inches of hair to Locks of Love during a UCLA event last week! Elsa learned of the event thanks to her sister, who works at the campus.

Elsa, who grew her hair for one year in preparation, decided to donate simply because she wants to make the children who have lost their hair due to a illness happy. Prior to the event, she was a bit nervous but even more excited. Now she’s enjoying her new look… she feels great that she was able to help someone in need!

We think she looks beautiful before AND after! You rock, Elsa! 🙂

Karma In Action

There’s no better time than the holidays to help our four-legged friends in need!

Dogeared team-member Alex, a major animal advocate, organized a donation drive to help support the L.A. County Animal Shelter in Downey—recognized as the most overpopulated shelter in the country. Thanks to generous contributions from the team, Alex was able to raise $300 in only one week! She used the money to purchase food, fleece blankets, toys and grooming supplies for the shelter animals.

Over the holiday weekend, Alex made several trips to the shelter to donate the haul! She was even given a tour of the facilities so she’d be able to see exactly where the donations would be used. Thank you, Alex, for your tireless efforts on behalf of these animals and thanks to Team Dogeared for helping to make it possible!

46 Mommas

Dogeared was thrilled to take part in the 3rd annual 46 Mommas Shave for the Brave event in Hollywood! These brave mommas (and other family members) gathered to shave their heads to raise money, build awareness and be advocates for children who have battled cancer.

The 46 Mommas represent all mothers who make the cancer journey with their child. Mommas traveled to Los Angeles from all around the world for this important event.

To help them tell the story of their journey, Dogeared offered each momma the opportunity to build a custom CREATE necklace. They created beautiful and heartfelt pieces as they visited and shared stories with Team Dogeared. We are truly touched by each and every one of them!

One Voice

Dogeared is constantly learning about the flow of karma in our lives. Case in point: we have worked closely with One Voice, an L.A. based nonprofit, since 1991. One Voice provides assistance to low-income families, including scholarship assistance to young adults in need. In 1992, Leticia, who came from a family of 11, was one of the first recipients of a One Voice scholarship. No one in Leticia’s family had been to college before – yet this bright and determined young woman attended Wellesley College thanks to this remarkable program. One Voice contacted Leticia, and recently, Dogeared received a surprise visit from her. It was a delight to learn that she is the mother to two children and works as a guidance counselor in Torrance – now helping other young adults prepare for their futures. Leticia has come full circle…and we’re privileged and proud to be part of such an outstanding human being’s journey.
